Nota d'usoLa preposizione attraverso può essere tradotta con “across” o con “through”, a seconda dell'oggetto che viene attraversato. In generale, quando si entra in un luogo per attraversarlo, come ad esempio un tunnel, un bosco o una città, si usa “through”: Siamo passati attraverso il tunnel della Manica, we went through the Channel Tunnel (non we went across the Channel Tunnel). Quando invece si attraversa una superficie “piatta”, come ad esempio un campo, un ponte o il mare, si usa la preposizione “across”: Camminarono attraverso i campi per tornare a casa, they walked across the fields to come back home. A volte è grammaticalmente corretto e possibile usare sia “across” che “through”, ma “across” implica semplicemente attraversare un luogo da un punto A a un punto B, mentre “through” implica una maggiore consapevolezza dell'ambiente circostante: Abbiamo camminato attraverso la città, we walked across town (e abbiamo raggiunto un punto stabilito) o we walked through town (e abbiamo visto monumenti, luoghi d'interesse ecc.). -
